Do Dogs Get Ice Cream Headaches?

Hi all! It's Renee. It's my turn to write today. Sam (the cat) is mad at me because I made him get off my lap so I could type this. Today was fairly uneventful...well at least for us humans.
The mammimals went to the veterinarian to get their travel health certificates. Everyone was very well behaved. Everything checked out just fine. After letting the cats out of their carriers at home, we took the dogs up to the top of Pillar Mountain. Pillar Mountain is the mountain that Kodiak city lies in the shadow of. It was bright and sunny, and surprisingly warm for the top of a mountain. The dogs had great fun running around and sniffing everything they could. Paul and I got some great pictures (no Mom, not just of the dogs). We used his work camera and a Kodak digital camera that Paul's parents let us borrow (double thanks by the way because we are using the laptop they sent us to type this up). We got some great pictures of the area and the dogs too.
After coming down from the mountain (a very bumpy car ride up and down) and stopping at the scenic overlook just outside of town for a few more pictures, we decided to get a quick ice cream cone from McDonalds (yeah, I know mom, not good food!). I decided to get the dogs a cone too. They had great fun sharing the ice cream (but no cone because Flash is allergic to wheat). Then we went and picked up the cats and their carriers for another quickie trip to help get them used to the car. We drove up towards Monashka Bay, which is a nice, smooth drive through good scenery. The cats did ok. They were out of their carriers for the first leg of the trip. They kept trying to bother Daddy (the driver) and enjoyed looking out the windows. They started to get a little nervous and cried a bit so we put them back in their carriers (to help them feel more secure) and turned around to head home. It was only about 20 minutes total, but you have to start small (though we're going to have to get up to 12 hour stretches for the trip...we're running out of prep time...) . They got home safe and sound.
Sam is now laying between me and Paul (his usual place) on the futon mattress we are sleeping on. Mike is laying in the last bit of sun (still brightly out at 9:16pm) coming in the back bedroom. The dogs are collapsed next to the bed. I'm typing this while we are watching *Batteries Not Included (a movie Paul got that I haven't seen before). I'm still nervous about how the animals will cope with the trip, but I'm praying that things will go well. The hardest part will be the 8 hour ferry ride where they have to stay in the car without us. Hopefully, since we are leaving Kodiak at 10pm, they will settle down and go to sleep. I know I will, most likely because I will have to drug myself so I don't get too motion sick (I got so sick on the ferry coming over here).
