An Alaska-Canadian Roller Coaster Ride
Well, what can I say, today was a day from hell. We drove from Tok, Alaska to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory-Canada. The road was filled for most of the way with these dips that made it feel like we were riding a roller coaster. Sam meowed most of the way. It was really annoying. The ups and downs of the road made all of us feel crummy. There was also tons of road construction for a lot of the way. It added about 2 hours to our drive, just because we had to reduce our speed due to the dips and the construction. The dips were like those kiddie carnival roller coasters that go around in a circle and just have little hills. Our car is not happy either. We bottomed out on the shocks a lot because of the weight that we are carrying. We got into Whitehorse a little past 9:30pm (we lost an hour too because of the time zone change). Then we ordered burgers from the lounge just as they were closing. They were supposed to be plain, but they were slathered with thousand island dressing (who puts thousand island on a cheeseburger? Only in Canada…) The kitchen was already closed by the time Paul got back to our room. Oh well…I’ll just take Benadryl and an antacid to help with any reaction that I might (probably will) have. It was really funny though. We got to Canadian customs, expecting to have to show birth certificates for us and health/rabies certificates for the animals and show our ID’s, get checked for fruits/veggies, etc. The customs officer didn’t even ask for our ID’s. All he did was ask was who was traveling (just me and Paul), did we have any firearms/weapons (he asked that twice) and if the animals were healthy. Then we were waved through the drive up check-in window. Go figure… Also, even though it gets up to 90’s in Canada, the hotels here refuse to have air-conditioning. At least it’s relatively cool today, so the room isn’t too hot. At least we got here safe and sound with no car troubles. The one really cool thing about today was that as we were driving in, it got cloudy and rainy. We saw a very clear double rainbow. Two rainbows right next to each other. You could see all the colors and everything. It was really cool. I’ve never seen that before. Paul said he had seen it before though. Anyway, gotta go. We have an 11 hour drive tomorrow and it’s already late. Hope things go better tomorrow.

Dressing!?! On a cheeseburger!?! That's like my worst nightmare. :) So will you be in Canada for the 4th?
Sorry we didn't get back, yes we were in Canada for the 4th. We stayed at two hotels that, even though it was advertised they had internet, didn't.
